Comprehensive Exam Info

Following completion of the core curriculum, all online M.S. Human Nutrition students are required to complete a one-day Comprehensive Examination. The exam (including re-takes, if necessary) is held twice a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring, on the main campus in Bridgeport, CT. Typically, students take the exam during their last semester, simultaneously with their elective (which is not covered on the exam). Travel expenses are the student's responsibility.

Registration

Students must register for the Comp Exam as they would for any online course: http://www.bridgeport.edu/pages/2249.asp.

Exam Info

1) The Exam

The comprehensive exam consists of 25 questions for each of the 8 required courses (the elective course is not covered on this exam).  The minimum passing score for each section is 60/100. If a student fails a section, he or she must retake the exam at the UB campus. The exam questions are predominantly multiple choice. The exam runs from 9am-4pm, although students can leave when finished (many students finish the exam early).

2) Preparation

Preparation materials will be made available online through Blackboard (students will receive an email on approximately September 1 for the October exam, and March 1 for the April exam, when prep materials are available).  The preparation will consist of sample questions from each course, and access to a student discussion board.  Students may work alone or in groups to answer the sample questions.

3) Breaks During The Exam

The exam is broken down into two booklets. Students may choose to take a break between booklets. Typically, most students choose to continue working rather than take an extended lunch break, and finish the complete exam in the early afternoon.

4) What Should You Bring?

The exam is a closed book exam, so you will only need to bring a #2 pencil, scrap paper is optional.
