Degree Programs & Certificates

IDEAL courses are designed to help you develop and demonstrate skills and abilities in four major areas; communications, problem solving; interpersonal relations; and critical thinking skills assessing the nature of society, individuals, and organizations.The result is a valuable learning environment that satisfies your degree requirements and gets you started to achieving your vision and personal goals.  The following degree programs and certificates are available through IDEAL:


Bachelor of Science in General Studies (BSGS)

The Bachelor of Science in General Studies degree is designed specifically to meet the needs of adults pursuing a high quality bachelor's degree program and seeking maximum flexibility and breadth in their studies. The BSGS is particularly well-suited to adult students who bring a rich variety of previous college studies or college-level learning obtained outside the classroom. A liberal number of free electives is permitted within the BSGS program, where students can accommodate all or most of their previous college studies. Students may choose areas of interest such as business studies or social science, as concentrations within the degree program.

Bachelor of Science in Human Services (BS HUSV)
The B.S. in Human Services program is designed to provide the academic and practical experience necessary to enter the field of human services. The combination of academic theoretical coursework and its application through supervised field work experience provides students with the breadth of preparation necessary for employment in a wide range of human service agencies and community organizations. This degree prepares students for (a) work with individual, group and communities in problem solving situations; (b) entry or continuation in the advocacy/community organization, social policy and change, administration, and or direct service delivery/practice/intervention with groups and individuals; and (c) graduate education or other forms of professional development.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology
The Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology prepares students for work that requires liberal arts training as well as psychological knowledge and skills. The major provides students with a detailed awareness of the field of psychology, including its historical background, paradigms, methods, research finding, and applications.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA)
The B.S. in Business Administration, offered through the IDEAL program, meets the same high standards of the traditional Bachelor's program with the added benefit of accelerated courses. The BSBA is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) one of the two organizations in the United States that accredit business schools and programs. This major provides breadth in all areas of business; management, marketing, accounting, computer applications and information systems, economics, and finance. The BSBA degree provides highly motivated students an advanced standing into UB's MBA graduate program.

Certificate in Criminal Justice
Earn a Certificate in Criminal Justice (CCJ). The CCJ is a specific set of courses for students wanting to learn about the dynamics of America's criminal and juvenile justice systems. CCJ students select courses to gain a broad understanding of the philosophy, theories, and operation of the adult and juvenile justice systems. The CCJ studies will focus on the causes of crime and delinquency, examine fundamental concepts underlying the practice of justice, and analyze the impact of crime on society. Students are challenged to consider new ways of preventing and handling crime.

Certificate in Gerontology
Earn a Certificate in Gerontology.  This 18-credit certificate program is ideal for those working in the Human Services field who want to learn more about the process of aging, and the care and treatment of the elderly.

Certificate in Human Resources Management
For all HR directors, current and new students. Have you ever wanted to get into the field of Human Resources or just wanted to make yourself more marketable? The HR Certificate might be just the quickest & the best way to put your plans into action. Our new Certificate in Human Resources Management is 15 credits - that's only 5 courses & you will earn a credit bearing certificate!
