Getting Started with Online Learning

Online education gives you the opportunity to advance your learning without having to come to the UB campus. The online courses are conducted entirely through the Internet, allowing you to receive assignments, submit coursework, and interact with your professor and other students via your computer. You do not have to be online at any particular time. However, while online courses provide some time flexibility, they are highly interactive and are NOT self-study courses.  Most courses follow a weekly schedule, and require you to login at least 2-3 times each week to participate successfully.

Getting started is easy. Specific admission requirements for our online programs are listed on the website for each program. Students enrolled in an online degree program are not eligible for health insurance at this time. Here are the 5 steps you need to follow to enroll in our online degree programs:

Step 1: Apply For Admission
If this is your first online course at the University of Bridgeport you'll need to complete an application for admission. Remember to include your application fee, and request official transcripts from any school you have attended. Step 2: Request Official College Transcripts

Official transcripts must come directly from the institution attended. Undergradute students must also request an offical high school transcript. Please use the forms below when requesting official transcripts, or have official transcripts sent directly to the Office of Admissions:

Step 3: Apply for Financial Aid (if needed)
Financial aid is available for those students enrolled in a UB degree program. For most adult students, financial aid packages consist primarily of student loans. Your eligibility is determined by your financial situation, the number of credits you have earned, and the number of credits you plan on taking. You must take at least 6 credits per semester to be eligible to receive financial aid. NOTE: Students taking pre-requisite courses for the M.S. Human Nutrition degree program may not be eligible for Financial Aid - check with UB's Financial Aid office to determine eligibility.

Step 4: Register for Classes & Order Textbooks
Once you are accepted into a program, the next step is to register for classes & order textbooks. Registration for online courses is limited and there is no guarantee that space will be available, so please register early. To register for classes and order textbooks:

Step 5: Your First Online Course
Prior to starting your first online course, you will automatically be given access to an interactive Online Orientation one week before your first online course begins. In only a few minutes per day, you'll become familiar with the activities in an actual online course - including viewing lectures, participating in the discussion board, completing assignments, sending email, and interacting with your instructors and fellow students. The Orientation is designed to help you feel comfortable with our online classroom, and is required for all new online students. For more information about the Orientation:
