Composition and Rhetoric I:
An introduction to the elements of effective writing, concentrating
on structure, logic, specificity, focus, grammar, sentence
structure, and mechanics. Frequent writing in and out of class. By
the end of the semester, students should be able to compose and
organize a grammatically correct and adequately developed
expository essay.

ENGLISH 352
Studies in Early American Literature:
Variable content. Intensive study of themes, genres, authors, and
factions prominent in American literature before 1830. Typical of
the areas of study are: The Spirit of '76, early fiction and
poetry, Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin, the Puritans.
