UB is the Home of Scholar-Athletes and Champions
Exciting things are happening at UB. Our athletics program has made a major resurgence, and our outstanding student-athletes are attracting more and more attention.
UB's athletics program has had growing success over the past year. Men's basketball was back in the NCAA Tournament in 2003, after a 10-year absence. This year the team includes an All-American candidate, Gordon James. Also last spring, women's gymnastics captured the ECAC Championship. This fall the men's soccer team won their second straight ECAC Championship, women's soccer was in the ECAC playoffs, and the volleyball team earned their first-ever NYCAC playoff berth.
In 2002-2003, the athletics department boasted two NYCAC Coaches of the Year, an ECAC Coach of the Year, two NYCAC Players of the Year, as well as numerous All-NYCAC selections. In addition, one-fourth of UB's student-athletes were named to All-NYCAC academic teams.
Join Us Now!
Our scholar-athletes have achieved tremendous success. Now we need your help. Please join us by becoming a member of the Purple Knights Roundtable. The Roundtable will involve alumni, parents and friends in raising funds to support our teams and helping to move UB athletics into national prominence.
Every dollar that we raise will go directly to the athletics program: two-thirds for athletics scholarships and one-third to support individual sports and facility renovations. A downloadable flyer sets out our goals and contribution levels for Roundtable memberships. All members of the Roundtable get free admission to all UB home athletic events and receive other benefits. We want you to be involved. Please join now!
Coach Bruce Webster Day
The Roundtable's first event was Coach Bruce Webster Day on February 28, 2004 at the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. At the Knights' last home game of the 2003-04 basketball season, we honored legendary men's basketball coach, Bruce Webster, by dedicating the court in his name. In Webster's 34 years as coach, UB won an impressive 549 games, and his teams made 15 postseason appearances. Click here for details of the day's events.
We look forward to your joining the Roundtable and hope to see you at future events. Click here for a Purple Knights Roundtable membership form.
