Director of Annual Giving

The University of Bridgeport is seeking a talented, highly motivated fund raising professional to serve as Director of Annual Giving. Reporting to the Executive Director of University Relations, the director will take responsibility of continuing the revitalization of the annual giving program by increasing alumni and faculty/staff giving, new donor participation and donor retention. 

The ideal candidate must have a progressive and successful track record in annual giving; experience with robust direct mail programs, sophisticated stewardship and recognition programs; be an adept writer.

The Director of Annual Giving must be dedicated to providing quality service, both internally and externally, to a broad-based constituency. S/he must exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and be committed to the University’s mission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all aspects of the University of Bridgeport Annual Fund.
  • Implement systems, procedures and practices for the most effective collaboration between programs, faculty and staff, and Alumni Relations.
  • Set fundraising targets and timeframes
  • Meet goals and deadlines via the implementation of an annual strategic plan
  • Determine most effective means of solicitation through the use of various communication vehicles including web, email, direct mail, interactive tools, print, etc.
  • Draft donor correspondence, gift acknowledgements and online content; write annual fund article for alumni quarterly newsletter  
  • Identify donors, solicit funds and cultivate relationships with alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and other constituents in order to increase participation and support
  • Maintain stewardship of current donors
  • Alert Executive Director of Major Gifts prospects.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of department files on donor giving via Raiser’s Edge database
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Executive Director
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of two + years’ successful fund-raising experience required, preferably in a university setting
  • Strong, enthusiastic interpersonal skills; able to effectively communicate and solicit funds in person, on the telephone and in writing
  • Able to interact effectively with multiple constituencies
  • Strong organizational skills that include effective management of multiple projects, prioritization of tasks and attention to details and accuracy
  • Exceptional work ethic and the ability to work independently
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive and critical data and information
  • Ability to be flexible and to work effectively as both a leader and a team member
  • Willingness and ability to travel (regionally with limited national travel)
  • Some evening and weekend work required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications essential; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Wealth Engine preferred; prior experience working with advertising agencies a plus.
