Director of Campus Activities & Community Services

SUMMARY

Working within the Division of Student Affairs, under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students, the Director will assist with all aspects of student programming and community service outreach including the advising of student organizations, creating and facilitating leadership workshops, initiating and implementing social, cultural and education programming opportunities and assisting with various special events.

This is a 10-month position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Campus Activities and Community Services will:

  • Oversee all aspects of the planning and implementation of social, cultural and educational campus activities
  • Assist with advisement of the University of Bridgeport Event Team (U-BET)
  • Oversee special event planning such as the International Festival, Student Leadership Awards ceremony and Health Fair
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of fall and spring orientation programs as well as other special events & community service programs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate club advisor training
  • Serve as the Student Center Building Manager which involves the hiring, training and supervision of over 50 employees
  • Collaborate with student organizations to plan and coordinate various heritage history/awareness programming and related community service projects for events such as Black History Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, GLBT Awareness Week, World AIDS Day, etc.
  • Serve as a resource person to academic and administrative departments and student club organizations
  • Recruit, train, supervise and provide leadership development opportunities for student volunteers
  • Create and maintain on-line student activity update calendars as well as weekly newsletters and other office publications
  • Initiate new student programming ideas with approval of the Assistant Dean
  • Answer phones, respond to email/voicemail messages and manage filing and office organization
  • Serve on various University committees as requested by the Assistant Dean
  • Be available to fulfill evening and weekend duties as requested by the Assistant Dean
  • Perform related duties as necessary to support the University of Bridgeport mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel Services, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or related field
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Successful candidate is student-centered, enthusiastic, flexible, self-directed and shows initiative
  • Experience creating and maintaining web pages preferred
