Freshman

Who attends UB? We could provide statistics on geographic distribution, class rank, SATs, etc., but statistics do little to give you a sense of the dynamic, diverse, interesting, talented group of students who enter UB every fall.

Each incoming class includes academically capable students and some with unusual talents (MVPs, team captains, students who have built their own computers and those who have designed cars, a magician, a model, a broadway actress, a beauty pageant winner, a violinist who plays rock, web designers, etc.)

Students come from California, Texas and New York as well as France, Germany and China.

Though diverse, all have attributes that the Admissions Office seeks to bring in a new, dynamic class: motivation, determination, curiosity and a desire to learn, grow and contribute. Consider becoming part of this special UB community.

Below is application information.

Freshman applicants must submit the following:

  1. An application for admission
  2. An official high school transcript
  3. SAT or ACT scores
  4. One recommendation
  5. Personal statement
  6. FAFSA (if you are applying for financial aid)
  7. $25.00 non-refundable application fee

Secondary School Preparation

The Admissions Committee places emphasis on the quality of the preparatory work of each applicant.

An applicant should be a graduate of a regionally accredited secondary school and should present sixteen acceptable units of academic work, including four units in English, three units in Mathematics, two units in a lab science, two units in the social sciences and a minimum of five electives. An applicant who has not satisfied the distribution of college requirements, but has presented convincing evidence of the quality of his/her high school work, may be admitted provisionally.

Students are admitted for both the Fall and Spring terms. Should a student be unable to enter the University during the term for which admission is granted, the offer of acceptance will remain open for one calendar year. Students must notify the Office of Admissions if it is their intention to defer their enrollment.
