An applicant who has attempted 12 or more semester hours at a regionally accredited post-secondary institution is considered a transfer applicant.

TRANSFER CANDIDATES MUST SUBMIT:

  1. An application for admission.
  2. An official high school transcript or G.E.D. (General Equivalency Diploma).
  3. An official copy of all college transcripts from each post-secondary institution previously attended.  An applicant who fails to indicate attendance at a previous institution at the time of application may forfeit eligibility for transfer credit.
  4. Personal Statement
  5. FAFSA (if you are applying for financial aid)
  6. $25.00 non-refundable application fee.
  7. College Catalog from all school attended.

Additional Information:

An applicant must have earned at least a "C" average (2.0 GPA) for all work attempted and be in good academic standing at the previously attended institution to be considered for regular admission.

Dental Hygiene, Biology, all Business majors and Computer Science and Engineering require a 2.5 grade point average.

The status of any applicant admitted before all final, official transcripts are received will be reevaluated upon receipt of the final transcript.

Transfer applicants are urged to apply well in advance of the opening date of the term in which they plan to enter. This will enable the student to receive a timely evaluation of their transfer credits and appropriate academic advisement and program planning.

Students are required to complete their last thirty semester hours at the University of Bridgeport and meet course requirements as described in each program to be eligible for a degree. A maximum of 66 credits may be awarded from two-year colleges and 90 credits from accredited four-year institutions.

Special Instructions for Specific Majors

Applicants are encouraged to call the appropriate department for information and/or to schedule an appointment. If difficulties are encountered, applicants should call the Office of Admissions at (203) 576-4552 for assistance.

Art and Design

A portfolio review is encouraged, but not required, of candidates for the design programs.  The portfolio plays a role in assessing the abilities of the student.  The student applicant may personally submit a portfolio to the school at an interview, or send the portfolio, slides or Macintosh-compatible CD through the mail along with return mailing and contact information.  Applicants should call the Art and Design Department at (203) 576-4222 or (203) 576-4034 to schedule an appointment or to make arrangements to submit the portfolio by mail.  The University of Bridgeport participates in regional portfolio days sponsored by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and portfolio reviews may be completed at the NASAD program.

Dental Hygiene

All transfer applicants applying to the Fones School of Dental Hygiene are required to have completed all pre-requisites which include college biology w/ lab, college chemistry w/lab, and college math up to intermediate algebra.  Also, transfer applicants are required to provide the following documents prior to their application being reviewed:  college transcripts from each school attended, high school transcripts with graduation date, personal statement (approximately 500 words), and one Letter of Recommendation.   An applicant’s file will not be reviewed unless all documents are provided and all pre-requisites have been completed.  Students that do not have the pre-requisites completed may be selected for the pre-dental hygiene program.  Applicants are encouraged to contact the Director of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene at 203-576-4138.

Student Athletes

The University of Bridgeport offers a full program of NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports, including basketball, baseball, cross-country and soccer for men, and basketball, softball, cross-country, gymnastics and soccer for women. Athletic scholarships are available. All students who wish to participate in intercollegiate athletics are required to register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.
