The trainer track of the iMSIT Master of Science Instructional Technology program at the University of Bridgeport is designed for the preparation or career enhancement of trainer practitioners.
The iMSIT program develops key competencies identified by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) as needed by practitioners in workplace training. Graduates are prepared for careers as professional trainers, instructional designers, e-learning specialists, and internal consultants working in corporate, not-for-profit, and government settings. The iMSIT program provides the requisite grounding in technology, learning, and performance improvement.
Many candidates in the iMSIT program hold full-time positions in the training and development field. Some candidates are independent trainers and/or consultants. Others come from employment settings related to training and development, human resources, or pursue the degree as an avenue of transition into a training-related career.
The iMSIT trainer track focuses on instructional delivery in corporate and industrial settings. The cohort pursues courses in instructional systems design, computer-based training, EPS and intelligent tutoring systems, and assessment using high-level authoring tools. The scope of applications studied emphasizes the acquisition of business presentation skills using desktop publishing, Web-based delivery, multimedia, video for instructor-led training and computer help desk support.
The iMSIT program is presented via blended instructional delivery—a combination of live on-campus meetings one-weekend-a-month, with online text and video conferencing in-between. Students are selectively admitted in small cohorts for peer-support in learning and the sharing of work experiences.
