How to configure Outlook 2003 for UBNet

1. Install the University root certificate (Make sure you use Internet Explorer for this step):

  • Click HERE to download the certificate.
  • Click on Open.
  • Click on Install Certificate....
  • Continue with the wizard, accepting all the defaults.
  • If you get a warning asking you to install the certificate, click Yes.
  • Click OK and OK to finish the install.

2. From Outlook, click on the Tools menu then choose E-mail Accounts...

3. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.

4. Select IMAP and click Next.

5. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box fill in the following:

  • Your Name: Enter your full name.
  • E-mail Address: Enter your UBNet email address.
  • User Name: Enter your UBNet username.
  • Password: (optional) Enter your UBNet password. If you choose not to enter it, you will be prompted for a password when you login to your email account.
  • Incoming mail server: mails.bridgeport.edu
  • Outgoing mail server: smtp.bridgeport.edu
After filling all the above, click on More Settings....

6. Select the Outgoing Server tab. Checkmark the My outgoing server requires authentication, and make sure the Use same settings is selected.

7. Select the Advanced tab, then:

  • Checkmark This server requires an encrypted connection in both Incoming and Outgoing servers.
  • Make sure the Incoming server (IMAP): is 993.
  • Change the Outgoing server (SMTP): from 25 to 465.

8. Click OK then Next, then Finish.

Note: Our recommended setup is IMAP as explained above. UBNet servers are still able to provide POP3 access to our users. Setup of POP3 is very similar to IMAP with the following difference:
  • Step 4 above, choose POP3 instead of IMAP.
  • Step 7 above, make sure the Incoming server (POP3): is 995.

You should now be able to send and receive email with Outlook through UBNet.
