Environmental, Health, Safety and Risk Management

Overview:

The University has established a Safety Committee whose members safeguard the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, local community and visitors.  The committee is charged with establishing appropriate policies, procedures and protocol's to assure compliance with all regulations, rules and laws pertaining to its charge and to advise the Vice President of Administration and Finance, through its Chairperson, on all matters.

Through the Chairperson, the Committee will work with the University Insurance Carriers, Agent and Vice President of Administration and Finance to provide necessary risk management strategies to minimize and manage risk ensuring relevancy, comprehensiveness, and effectiveness by integrating risk management processes including safety policies, protocols and plans with sound business management processes.

The Committee addresses laboratory safety, hazardous materials, facility issues concerning safety and health, safety procedures, emergency response and education as required by regulations and to work with the various building department/s and occupants to develop appropriate building safety standards and resolve safety problems.

Where it is determined that it is in the best interest of the University Community to have individual building managers or safety committees their primary function will be to ensure safe practices and conditions in the various labs and studios.  Membership will be based on need and departments within each building.
