IC Students and Alumni

The International College of the University of Bridgeport is unique because of the diversity of its students. It is not at all unusual to find oneself in a class of twelve students where the United States, Nepal, China, Nicaragua, Japan, Nigeria, Armenia, and Bulgaria are all represented. At the University of Bridgeport it is not at all unusual to say that the classroom itself is "an experience in globalization."

Recent graduates of the International College have been awarded fellowships to the Maxwell School, Harvard, NYU and Johns Hopkins.

Name: Obakeng Ofentse Phiri
Hometown: Mmabatho,
Major: International Political Economy and Diplomacy

Obakeng is a rising junior at the International College and an IPED major.  He is also the president of the International Awareness Club (IAC).  Here he shares his experience with the club:

"IAC is about global awareness on a community level. We bring forth issues that concern our world. We believe that there is a need for people to know about the world and its cries. Thus far, we have accomplished a debate on foreign policy in October, which was sponsored by the International College and we are looking forward to upcoming events such as, International Week in November and Model United Nations this fall, or next semester. I first became involved with IAC when it was still in its developmental stage in 2003. My involvement only [came about] because I have a drive for change. And for me change at a large level, or at grassroots, is still one step for mankind."
