Typing in Other Languages


  *In order to install Asian languages you will need your original Windows XP install cd. 

Enabling most languages:

  • Click on the Start button
  • Click on the Control Panel
  • Double click the Regional and Language Settings
  • This will open a new window with three tabs.  Click on the tab that says Languages. 
  • Click the Details button (if you are installing an East Asian or right-to-left language, see below).
  • Click the Add button on the right side of the window.
  • Select your language from the Input Language dropdown menu.
  • Make sure that they Keyboard layout/IME box is checked. 
  • Click OK.
  • Under Preferences, click the Language Bar option.
  • Make sure that the Show the Language bar on the desktop and the Show additional Language bar icons in the taskbar boxes are checked. 
  • Click Apply.
  • Click OK.
  • In your taskbar along the bottom of your screen, you should see a new small icon that says EN in white letters. 
  • Click on the icon and select the language you would like to type in. 

To install East Asian or right-to-left languages:

  • Check the box for the option you prefer under Supplemental Language Support
  • Click OK to the pop up window
  • Click OK in the Regional and Language window.
